Ramulus — a kinetic instrument of light by Onibi

Ramulus is a kinetic floor and table lamp by Onibi, a New York–based lighting practice in Brooklyn. Designed by Kebei Li, Ramulus modulates illumination through movement — shifting fluidly between floor and work-surface placement, and between direct and indirect light. A resilient telescopic stem allows the lamp to freely extend in height while imparting its iconic trembling presence — responding to touch and movement with a subtle, elastic sway.

Engineered motion

Tilting, rotating, and extending with meditative precision, Ramulus articulates through two tensioned spherical joints at either end of its central stem. Vertical extension adjusts spatial reach, axial rotation reorients light without moving the base, and controlled tilt transitions seamlessly between task and ambient illumination.

Materials and craft

Constructed from a restrained palette of industrial materials selected for mass, durability, and tactile clarity. Stainless steel telescopic stem manufactured within a medical supply chain. Cast iron base. Extruded anodized aluminum shades in natural (silver) or black finishes, also functioning as heat sinks.
